Any tips on landscaping around house foundation to keep dogs from digging?
Our dogs keep digging around the foundation of our home, and we're afraid we are going to end up with a wet basement if they don't stop! I was thinking about some type of rock or somethign to put along the house foundation...any ideas?
- Land mines...broken glass...electric shock therapy....or just put a good 4 inches of 3/4" crushed stone..it will also help the roof water to drain.
- Sprinkle ground cayene pepper around the areas they dig: no need to sprinkle a lot in any one area. This is harmless to the dog yet very unpleasant. Cayene pepper is cheap if you buy large canisters.
- Chicken wire (or something similar). Just lay it down, cover with mulch, and/or plant your plants through it. I'd wait a week or so before planting things so the dog learns it's not fun to get his/her claws hurt in wire.
- GOOD LUCK to you..... I have tried everything and nothing has worked. I even went to the larger 2-3 inch river rock and she dug that up too. I've tried all the powders, sprays, you name it, I have tried it. I think if the dog is inclined to do it, there is nothing you can do to stop it.
I have never figured out why some dogs dig and some never even attempt it. Again, good luck to you,
